Definition and Types of Hammers


Hammer:

We know that hammer is one among the oldest tools in civilization. You can do light hammering work instead of using hammer drill. There’s an amazing diversity of different types of hammers. Hammers are varying by their shape, size, and weight. Most of the time one or two types of hammers use in the houses. On the opposite hand other types use in any workshop.

Types of Hammers:

1.     Ball Peen Hammer:

 Ball Peen Hammer


This hammer primarily used for engineers. It knows as a machinist’s hammer. It has two heads which one side is flat and another side calls peen, rounded. This mostly uses in the metal workshop for peening metal. It also use in many useful tasks like chisels and punches. You can use this hammer for shaping metal and closing rivets.

2.     Cross and Straight Pein:

Again, it is better to use for shaping metal. It has two sides of the head. One of these has cross pein which helps to do domestically work. Normally handles made of wood. Cross and Straight Peen hammer are very useful in household work or metal workshop.

3.     Claw Hammer:

 Claw Hammer


Claw hammers mainly use for woodworking. Most of the time it uses for driving nails into or extracting nails from, some other objects. It is not suitable for heavy hammering on metal surfaces like Ball Peen Hammer. This hammer has also two parts of the top. One side of the head is flat with a smooth surface and another side of the head curves down like as “V” shape. This a part of this claw hammer which uses for extracting nails from wood.


4.     Club Hammer:

 Club Hammer


Club hammer is one among the foremost important slug. Sometimes it’s called a lump hammer. This tool very useful for light works. It’s not so perfect for commercial. It has a double face head which is beneficial for light demolition works. It has various sizes and weights. The best size of those hammers is 1135 gm for domestic works. Usually, the wood wont to make a handle for this hammer.


5.     Sledge Hammer:

 Sledge Hammer


These are similar looks like a club hammer. Sledge Hammer features a longer handle and serves to be a touch heavier than club hammer. This hammer used for breaking up rocks, concrete, and masonry. This hammers uses like an ax. The Longer handle helps to provide a huge momentum and hitting power which combines with a heavyweight of the head. Need to wear suitable protective clothing including safety glasses.

6.     Mallet Hammer:

 Mallet 




A wooden block on a handle makes a mallet. Usually, it has used for joints together. This is also a fundamental tool for a carpenter or joiner. One kind of hardwood makes this hammer. Most of the time this hammer use where a metal hammer might do damage to the piece or project performing on or the opposite tools like the chisel. Mallets are also made of Rubber.
