Types of Nuts:

There are various kinds of nuts explained below:

1.     Hexagonal Nut
2.     Square Nut
3.     Ring Nut
4.     Cap Nut
5.     Slotted Nut
6.     Cylindrical or Capstan Nut
7.     Dome Nut
8.     Wingnut or Thumb Nut

1.     Hexagonal Nut:

 Hexagonal Nut


This is the most common form of nut used for the general fastening purpose in conjunction with a hexagonal-headed bolt.

2.     Square Nut:

 Square Nut



A square nut is used in conjunction with a square-headed bolt. The spanner used for the nut can have a better hold on a square nut than on hexagonal nut.
3.     Ring Nut:

 Ring Nut


It is the form of a ring provided with slots in the curved surface for a special c-spanner. These nuts are generally used in parts, one nut acting as a lock nut the other.
4.     Cap Nut:

 Cap Nut


It is a hexagonal nut provided with a cylindrical cap at the top to protect the end from corrosion. It also prevents leakage through the threads. Cap nuts commonly used in smoke-boxes locomotives.


5.     Slotted nut: 

 Slotted Nut


Slotted nuts are designed and constructed such that they can form a locking mechanism with a cotter pin or a safety wire.

6.     Cylindrical or Capstan Nut:



This nut is cylindrical in shape and has holes drilled in the curved surface for turning it with a tommy bar.  

7.     Dome Nut:

 Dome Nut


It forms the cap nut having a special dome at the top as shown in the figure.
8.     Wingnut or Thumb Nut:

 Wing or Thumb Nut



A wing nut can be easily operated by the thumb and a finger and is used where it is required to be adjusted frequently.

Micrometer and It's Parts:  Micrometer   Micrometer: The micrometer may be a precision measuring system, employed by engineers. Each revolution of the rachet moves the spindle face 0.5mm towards the anvil face. The object to be measured is placed between the anvil face and the spindle face. The rachet is turned clockwise until the thing is ‘trapped’ between these two surfaces and therefore the rachet makes a ‘clicking’ noise. Types of Heavy Weight Metals: Copper (Cu):  Copper It is probably the primary engineering metal to be used. Unlike other metals, it can occur in nature within the metallic form also as an ore. It has excellent heat and electrical conductivity and resists to corrosion when alloyed with other metals. However, thanks to lower density, aluminum has higher conductivity per unit weight. Zinc (Zn):  Zinc Zinc is an inexpensive material with moderate strength. It is chemically similar to magnesium. Mechanically zinc is more ductile but not as strong.
